About Christopher Sanger
Christopher Sanger, President of Durant Enterprises, has been providing appraisals, insights, and expert advice on collector cars for the past 20 years. He has vast experience with all of the manufacturers of extraordinary vehicles, with a particular passion for early American classics from the 1920s, Ferraris, Jaguars, Porsches and Mercedes-Benz.
Christopher has been in the classic car and motorcycle and art auction industries for more than two decades. He quite literally grew up among cars as the great-great-grandson of William C. Durant, founder of General Motors, and a relative of E. Paul duPont, founder of duPont Motors. He was Vice President and Head of US Sales for Christie’s International Motor Cars, where he was a frequent guest on CNBC and the Velocity Channel’s Chasing Classic Cars, as well as a number of other major media outlets. He has been involved in notable sales, such as the ex-Steve McQueen 1963 Ferrari 250 GT/L “Lusso,” the single-owner 1928 Mercedes-Benz Type S Torpedo Roadster by Saoutchik, the ex-John Straus 1938 Bugatti Type 57 “Atalante” barn find, and the David Tunick Collection from Greenwich, CT. Christopher also worked in Estates, Appraisals and Valuations at Christie’s New York and is a consultant for the Winston Art Group, and has vast experience with appraisals and valuations, including for insurance, estate tax, fair market, and loan collateral. Christopher’s expertise in antique and collector cars has made him a valued consultant and public speaker worldwide, as evidenced by his participation as a judge at the Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance (2007–2010), speaker at the Credit-Suisse Forum at Pebble Beach (2015), the Boca Raton Museum of Art (2017), Bank of America (2018), Wells Fargo (2019) and the Appraisers Association of America lecture series (2019), Goldman Sachs Apex Family Office Symposium (2022) and the Appraisers Association of America National Conference (2022). Additionally, Christopher has provided expert witness testimony.
Christopher is a Certified Member of the Appraisers Association of America, which is the highest level of appraisal certification available and is USPAP certified. Additionally, Christopher wrote the Collector Car exam for the AAA and co-authored “Appraising; The Definitive Guide to Valuing Fine Art, Decorative Arts & Collectibles”.
Away from the “car world”, Christopher lives with his wife and two college aged children in Wilmington, DE. Christopher serves on the board of the Fishers Island Club. He has previously served as Chairman of the Board of Indian Mountain School, President of the Hay Harbor Club, the Fishers Island Utility Company, the H.L.
